This DM-X400-04, X-Band 400W GaN SSPA is our flagship high power amplifier. It is a multi-stage design, product that is a compact, lightweight (1.5kg), efficient microwave high-power pulsed SSPA. These amplifiers can be customised to suit other frequency ranges and interfaces.

This GaN SSPA delivers up to 400W at up to 20% duty. The output and driver stages employ gallium nitride (GaN) power transistors giving state-of-the-art power performance with a power-to-volume ratio we believe to be among the highest in the industry for such products. The standard output connector is N-type female. Two models are available with subtly different performance, one runs off a 40v supply and the other at 50v, the latter offering the best overall efficiency. Typically, at 40v the efficiency is better than 20%. The saturated power gain is around 53dB with a 0dBm input. This model uses industrial-grade components throughout and can be operated up to +85C.
The SSPA provides an alarm to alert the host system when a temperature threshold is exceeded. The alarm condition can be set to shut down the amplifier if maximum operating temperature is exceeded.



This SSPA is well suited to a range of radar applications, giving system designers an alternative to the incumbent vacuum tube or traveling-wave tube amplifiers (TWTA). This amplifier can readily be combined with external combining components to provide kW power levels and beyond – the internal phase shifter allows the user to optimise the combining efficiency to get the most out of their system. The design can be tailored to meet individual specifications if required.

- This compact SSPA is addressable via an I2C bus which we use to align the amplifier, but this bus can also be used to interrogate the amplifier for internal currents, voltages and temperature. An expert user could be provided with a full set of alignment addresses.
- The DM-X400-04 is usually supplied without a heatsink, but a heatsink can be provided if required.
